Yesterday evening I harvested this 8 in vanderbilt mi. Dressed out at 184lbs! Super excited. 35 yd shot with my dads old Golden Eagle Advantage Evolution. I wouldve waited for a closer shot but…..buck fever got the best of me, i had stopped breathing the second i pulled my release trigger and didnt take another breath till my vision was almost black and starry took a deep breath, and thanked God for this harvest,!! “Since he was my second deer”dad thought I made a bad shot because dad watched the 3pt come in to me, then a 6pt come in be hind it, and then what I thought was a 9pt come in as the 3 and 6 came within 15 or 20yds of my stand, the 8pt “about 35yds awy” stopped and looked at me as i drew back the bow “20-30 minutes before dark” and i wanted him to keep fallowing the other two but my heart was beating so fast i couldnt wait so i found my mark and released!!! Made a great pass thru shot using a good ol’ 100gr thunderhead broadhead. Arrow went in front of front shoulder as seen, and came out just behind the other shoulder. He was facing a 5 o-clock position looking my way. Couple kicks later he was down. Had amazing help getting him out of the woods. I shot my first deer in 2005 “small 8pt” opening day of rifle season with a 50 cal muzzle loader because dad had a my 270 in the U.P. with him,and i was 16yrs old. Hunted every season since then and have seen many does and a few small bucks “i had 6pts or smaller give me opportunity to shoot” but never took the shot, for I’ve been keeping my families traditional 8pt rule true to this day. I am having a shoulder mount done for this one and will have the scoring done then. I am guessing 120″ rack maybe smaller maybe bigger. It was an amazing experience and the best part…my father hunting in a stand forty yards away and watched me shoot this buck! My best day this year for sure.
