This was my 2nd year in a row going out for opening morning with my Uncle.. after shooting a young Jake last year for my first bird I was ready to be patient and wait for one of the nice Tom’s he’d seen hanging out in the area.. we watched a hen at about 30 yards for at least 15 mins then she dipped into the ditch behind us chasing this tom around in the woods.. chased him right back over to us and he stopped at about 35 yards and I took the shot. 7:15AM he was down!! The quickest, most exciting hunt I’ve ever experienced!
9inch beard, 1 1/2 inch spurs and 28lbs dressed! The perfect bird for opening morning, even if it was a very soggy morning in the rain!
