I was sitting in my blind texting my buddy to see if he was seeing anything. I responded to his text, and BAM the deer just appeared like houdini. I tossed my phone on the ground, grabbed my 30-06, and put the cross hairs on him. He was standing behind a few hardwood whips, and looked at me a few times. I thought maybe he heard me breathing. My heart was racing, and I felt like I was breathing like an asthmatic who was running a marathon. After about a minute, that felt like 20, he took a couple of steps out into the clearing and I squeezed off a shot. He ran about 35-40 yards up a ridge, and I watched him drop. My buddy came to help dress it, and drag it out of the woods. We took it down to the local buck pole, and it won heaviest deer. Dressed out it was 185.2 lbs and it had a spread of 16.5″. It may not be a monster, but it proves that there are still successful hunts in the U.P.
