Worked from 6am at my Orchard until 430pm when my crew gave me a sandwhich set an alarm on my phone in case I fell asleep on my phone and sent me into the woods. I have known this buck for years and I decided to try a new area on the west side of the property that night. So I took my climber found an area that I perceived he might be travelling….I had been in the tree about 30 minutes when I notice movement from the West about 100 yards in thick brush. He was leading another deer and all I needed to see was two of his points on the left hand side and I knew it was him (Homey so named since he never seemed to leave the 120 acres of woods). I cant tell you what the second deer was since I just focused on him. As he travelled from my right to my left he was walking steadily and never presented a clear shot. I wasnt going to disrespect hi with any marginal shot if I could help myself. Im 54 and as you can imagine ,my heart reached a new turbo speed as I had never felt. He had now passed in front of me and began to distance himself. I did a doe bleat with my mouth as he approached the next opening where I had placed my aim. He stopped looked forward and then as he began to look my way I fired. Yes, I cried and yes I can retire now since Ill never see one this big in the woods again due to Michigans regulations. I have hunted since early childhood with my Dad, I had spent thousands of hours in a tree and I have spent many many thousands on habitat, food plots and the like. I actually started the drive to change the trespass law in Michigan when I left the Submarine Service and now you can charge trespass from a picture. Unfortunately Michigan is loosing lifetime hunters like me because theres no 160s in the woods readily to persue….so Ill go after does now and help my neighbors get their 110 inch buck of a lifetime and try to get them to pass on smaller bucks. This buck scored 158.2 before deductions and 151.5 net….thank you for being a hunter and seeing the things I have from a tree. Now go listen to a song about Fred Bear….lol
