I decided to continue hunting with my crossbow behind my barn instead of using the rifle. t keeps the ;property quiet and the bucks aren’t as spooked. My property is a funnel between the Kalamazoo river and 94. With the only pressure coming from a hunt clue to the south and a group of guys hunting 500 acres to the north. In 60 years of bow-hunting this is by far the largest deer I have ever harvested. It was so quiet I heard him coming out of the swamp over 300 yards to my south.I could smell him before I saw him. He was on his way past my boy’s stand when he stopped and looked straight at the stand giving me a perfect broadside shot at just 30 yards. He turned and ran straight at my blind and I thought I had missed when he piled up 15 feet from the blind.I called my son and could hardly talk. I just told him, I shot that buck that keeps busting you. He thought I was joking until he came out and saw him laying in front of the blind.
