11/19/2024. Shot him at 12:45pm right after the rain had stopped. Watched him come out twice grunting and chasing 2 does that were in the field without being able to get the scope on him in time for a shot. After the 2nd time, he disappeared into the timber for close to an hour and 20 minutes before coming back and giving me a quartering to shot at 80 yards. Had to give him the good ole “MEH” to stop him as he was trotting with his tongue hanging and panting. My 270 dropped him right where he stood and flipped him onto his back. I shoot 130 grain silver ballistic tips from Winchester. The best part of this whole encounter…I was just about to head out for a bit to skin a smaller 8 point I had taken the morning before. I noticed one of the does by herself as I got out of my blind and figured I’d better sit tight for a moment to see what happens and not risk bumping her on my way out if anything. So I got back inside. Best decision ever! 3 minutes later is when he first came running out in full rut and grunting. Total time from first encounter until he was on the ground was 1.5 hours. I thought he was gone for good, but I had my mind made up that I wasn’t going to leave after what I had just witnessed. Hands down one of the most surreal hunts of my life. I’m beyond happy with this buck. God I love November. DIDN’T GO 20!
