Sarah was hoping to fill her tag with a decent buck this year……well this guy walked out into the food plot at 6:50am, about 60yds from us. Uncle Brian seen it was a good buck and said “it’s a good one, get your gun up and take the shot” well Sarah readied her shot and “click”, he stared at us and Sarah stared at me. I told her she must not have a bullet in and to rack a shell without moving as he was staring at us. She racked another shell and I told her to shoot as soon as she was ready as he was almost back into the woods. Sarah readied her shot a 2nd time and “click” the gun didn’t fire again! Now the buck is literally 2 steps from her not having a shot, and Sarah looked at me with frustration and disappointment. I took the gun, hit the bottom of the magazine (to which I heard it “click”), and I racked another bullet into her .350 Legend and simultaneously handed her the gun back and said “shoot, and quick he’s gonna take off!” Sarah very quickly readied her 3rd attempt and “Boom”. I couldn’t tell if she hit him or not as he was gone as soon as the shot went off. I had thought I heard a crash but wasn’t confident. I said, “How do you feel about the shot?” and her reply was “Really good, I was on him.” So we sent some texts and made some phone calls to the family letting them know about what just happened, and also to enlist grandpa’s help for the track job. Sarah and I looked on the edge of the food plot for about 10 minutes before Sarah found a very tiny drop of blood………during this time I was hoping she didn’t miss, and was very relieved when she seen blood, especially because in the back of my mind I had heard a “crash” right after he took off. Well Grandpa arrived and we followed a blood trail (which was difficult as there wasn’t a ton of blood) for a short 40yds to him piled up and tongue hanging out. She put a perfect double lung shot on him, granted it was the 3rd attempt but during the heat of the moment she held her composure and got the job done! Proud family all around!
