As a parent this is a night that I’ll always remember with my kids. We are a family of 5 and everyone hunts. As parents we try to do the best we can to teach our kids the right way and put them first. A lot of preparation goes into hunting season for us starting with food plots in the spring and ending with food plots for the fall. My daughter Isabella Grezner is 15 years old and still a little unsure of being alone in the blind hunting and not wanting to make a mistake. I was with her on the night of October 26th in the blind at the bottom of valley we have on our property when a 6 point walked out at 5:45pm. After a conversation she decided to take the shot and we were both excited with it! Sitting in the blind we texted everyone to let them know a shot was fired! Now… my 12 year old son Nicolas Grezner was hunting on top of the ridge by himself (He is very independent kid and can do it everything himself, so he tells us. He has had hunter safety course last year in September.) We have another blind set up about 150 yards away. At times I agree to let him go himself to learn and build trust. He called us after the text and in the excitement wanted to come down to us. We said, no stay and hunt and we’ll wait till dark to start looking for signs. As he sat there with excitement for his sister, he couldn’t take it anymore and start packing everything up at 6:30pm. He was getting ready to walk out of the blind at 6:40pm when he took one last glance out the window and saw a buck walking across the food plot. He unpacked everything, reopened the blind window up and reset his bow back into position and fired his shot!! He called me to tell me, but I thought he was pulling my leg until he sent me a picture of a broken bloody bolt. After tracking Isabella’s buck and recovering her’s, we started the track for his deer. We found barley any blood going about 200 yards and when I was just about to call it for a morning track job we found quarter size blood spot with bubbles in it. I said Hallelujah!! Blood picked up and found him in 40 yards right where he bedded down. I couldn’t believe what we found when I saw him and thought… I can’t believe my 12 year old son did this on his own with no help. Isabella shot her buck in the heart and he ran about 50 yards before expiring. Nicolas shot his in the shoulder taking lungs out going about 240 yards before expiring. As dad that hunts now, growing up my brother and I did the same thing years ago each shooting a deer the same night and it never happened again in 25 years yet. It was a special night and all our hearts were filled with beautiful memories! Sorry it’s a long story. I left out a lot of other details, but still explained it in the shortest version possible.
