I was hunting a very small rape and turnip plot watching a small 6 pt feeding when this guy walked up. Couldn’t see it’s antlers at first but noticed it was the biggest deer I’d ever seen! It finally showed its rack and I didn’t even have time to get the shakes. Just drew and shot. I misjudged the distance and spined it. It dropped right in the plot and I put another arrow in the vitals so it wouldn’t suffer. I estimated this deer at only 3.5-4.5 years old using tooth wear technique and also based on a trail cam pic from the year before. My season was basically over in the first half hour of light. I’m definitely not complaining! This is not a typical deer for the area I hunt, but it just goes to show that if you let the little guys and even 2.5 year olds go you just might get lucky and be rewarded with a chance to harvest a true buck of a lifetime.
