After 8 or 9 years of hunting I was finally able to get a buck. I always had hoped that someday I’d get one with my bow and it happened! Since becoming new parents Lex and I have been very very busy which is to be expected and totally great. I was finally able to get some time today after work to hunt for the first time this season. I went out at around 3:45-4pm and sat the edge of a standing corn field. It was kinda warm so it was a very comfortable sit. This guy came through the corn at 6:15, he was standing under a tree with a low hanging bunch of branches. All I could see was his antlers and head for about 15 minutes, I kept ranging the spot that I thought he would step out to and it was exactly 21 yards. He ended up walking away from me and I was so bummed, but he turned around and eventually decided to come back my way. He gave me a quartering toward me shot at 20 yards and I took it. It hit just forward of his shoulder, he took off and I saw my illuminock stuck in him. He went crashing through the woods and broke the arrow off with about 7-8 inches still in him. It was a perfect shot, right through the central boiler. I’m so thankful to have such a great friend Nehemiah Rettig who is also my neighbor. He helped me get it out about 1000 yards to my truck
