I hunted my guts out for 25 days straight for the monster during bow and gun season all the way till the last day the 25th just before thanksgiving.
I was lucky enough through a friend of mine to exchange some work for hunting on this property Matt-Y) , thanks to him. I was blessed with a nice buck. I hunted morning and night for days and sometimes all day long. I missed two days with rain, but I stuck to it and kept hunting hard., I knew there was a big wide buck out here because of the neighbor he was gracious enough to let me know that it was on his camera through the summer and he was in the area. As I started hunting one evening I did see this buck right at last light and there was no chance of getting a shot with a bow as he was eager to engage with a doe and try to get some kisses (lol) as she ran away so did he. As the days went on, I seen many deer mostly small bucks some medium size bucks that were not what I was looking for the days where coming to an end. I thought this would be another year of no good success and I would be eating a tag sandwich.
The morning of the 25th I got up early like any other day, I got to the property headed to the stand proceeded to hunt and sat there till light of day. I had two small deer come by me. Some time went on another deer went by me all small doe. 10:30AM comes along I figured I would go to a different spot on the property where I knew the deer came in to lay down, hoping that I would see the monster, as I get down from my stand by a county drain ditch that runs through the property, I start walking and I only get about 20 yards when I pause an I look up just in time to see a deer running fast and darts into the thick brush about a Hundred yards from me and only 50 yards from my truck lol. Lucky enough I seen that it was a buck as it ran by fast , I got a glimpse of what looked like a good mature buck but I could not tell that it was this big wide monster that I heard about was running around. I didn’t have time to waste so I proceeded to move forward slowly and cautiously, as I get closer, I hear some noise sound like the deer took off through the thick brush. I decided to go to the road and try to cut him off and get around to the north side of the property and see if he comes through so I can get a shot as time went on I heard nothing and saw nothing so I decided not to try to push him too hard because I new he was on the property at least and I may get another chance at later time , but I decide to go back to the truck where I parked , then thought to myself the deer like to walk right behind my truck so I thought maybe he didn’t go too far in the brush from where I seen him the 1st time and all the sudden I hear some noise again, I froze then quickly I went back to the road went around to the trail proceeded to sneak the best I could towards the deer I got about 40 to 50 yards and I hear what sounds like a deer taking off again, I look up suddenly I see the horns and head of a buck in a hole through the thickets , weeds and trees. I only had a neck and head shot for that’s all I could see as the deer jumped to my left where I got vision of him but I still didn’t know that this buck was the one the neighbor told me about at this time. Quickly throw my gun up to my shoulder get on the back of his neck looking through my scope with the cross hairs on target and I pull the trigger, the buck drops to the ground as I freak out with excitement, but I’m still kill mode for I’m not positive He’s dead all the way I proceed closer staying cautious in case he gets back up, after a few minute I get myself together and make my way and get right up to the buck all the sudden I hear something to my right I quickly turn and a doe is standing right there looking at me that suddenly decides to takeoff. Turning back to the buck making sure he is all the way dead I get super excited to find out that it is the big wide buck The neighbor was talking about and I was filled with joy and excitement finally being successful after many days of nothing I took a moment to thank the Lord for his blessings and realizing that this buck was locked down with a doe so once again love killed this buck and the 450 bushmaster I was using. lol !!
