This is the buck of second chances. I had a spike behind me early and after he disappeared into some brush, I heard a scuffle and thought that maybe another buck had chased him. I never saw the bigger buck until he had somehow made it all the way behind me and was grunting at the edge of a corn field. I grunted at him, but he trotted off into the corn field and I figured I wouldn’t see him again. About 45 minutes later, I looked down and there he was right below me at 10 yards. He had come in to eat acorns. I rotated around the tree and took my shot. He ran up the ridge and I heard him crash on the other side no more than 50 yards away.
