All of my wildest dreams came true. I was able to shoot a beautiful 8 point frame with a 1 inch sticker on the base on October 18. Then tonight happened. I slipped into my blind. Took a call quietly from my wife, then back to hunting. Not 5-10 minutes later, a deer comes walking out from the creek bed. I noticed it was a buck, but couldn’t see the size. The. He came closer and I knew I wasn’t going to pass on him. He kept walking to directly in front of me. I managed to let out a “meh” (I’m usually too afraid I’m going to scare them off.) He stopped square in front of me. I was ready and pulled the trigger on him broadside at 10 yards. I knew it was a good shot I called dad, then my wife, and then some friends. We waited about an hour
and a half while two buddies came to help. He didn’t even go 50 yards. I thought I had seen some sort of kicker. I had a picture of a nice 10 point with a kicker on a G2. As it turns out, it was a buck I hadn’t actually seen. I had a blurry pic of a big racked deer, but couldn’t tell exactly what it was. This is the deer of my dreams. It’s a typical 10 point frame with an outside kicker on each of the G3s. The buck I shot in October was the biggest deer I had ever shot…. Until tonight. I have never tagged out on 2 bucks in Michigan. I’ve always bought 2 tags because I hunt the LP as well as the UP. I didn’t want to have to give up time with family if I shot one early. Well, this was one thing I never expected. I put in a lot of hours this year, even taking last Friday off to hunt in the snow. To shoot a big deer in Michigan, you have to have the age factor. I’m sure both of these bucks were 4+. Thankful for a wife that somehow put up with me this season always being gone. Thankful to God almighty for blessing me this season. What a year!
