After not seeing a single deer opening day, Tuesday morning I sat and watched a half rack 4pt chase around a small doe and button buck for about a half hour about 30 yards away, he then wandered through the corn another 50 yards to a small clearing. Then out of nowhere two does come crashing through the corn and he perks up and starts moving away from them back toward my stand, that’s when this big guy made his way to the clearing, I almost took the shot but he kept coming after the half rack right back to my stand. Had my gun ready aimed at my lane and as soon as he stopped in the path I let it rip. He ran about 30 yards into the thick trees as I watched him go down. Extremely happy as not only is this my biggest buck but I’ve also watched him grow the last 3 years without ever seeing him during daylight, 3 years of late night/early morning pictures and the first time I had a chance I made him pay.
