I have been hunting up north with my family for over 15 years and have been pretty unsuccessful. This year I decided I was going to hunt hard. I found an area with lots of buck activity and figured I’d set a stand up and leave it alone for rifle season. I sat all day and seen a couple small bucks, few does but it died of around 11am. At 440 I heard grunting in the thick stuff, I could tell it was deep but all we ever see up here is typical basket eights. I let one grunt out and I hear him stop. He waited about 10 seconds and come crashing and grunting out of the thick stuff heading right to me. We he stepped out about 120 yards away I about dropped my gun. I have hunted alot in Ohio and down state and this was the largest deer I have ever seen in person! He got into 110 yards and I let the ol 350 legend go. I forgot to even turn my scope power up, so I shot him on 3 power. He took a step to the side and just looked at me. Then turned and started walking back the way he came. I grunted and he turned and looked at me and kept walking. He got to the edge of the woods and I let sorbet bullet fly through the brush and he was gone. I called my cousin, told him I missed an up north state land monster. He told me before I get to worked up to get down and look for blood as it was getting dark. I couldn’t stand up in my tree stand for about 15 mins. I got down and found 0 blood, I was crushed. I started walking through the brush where he walked off and there he was, 5 yards into the woods!!!! I couldn’t believe it. He just walked off and died! It was a perfect heart shot.
