This is a special deer to me. I harvested a decent 10 point on my ten acres on 10/12. I have not had much on camera that I felt were worthy of an arrow the past two years. I've mixed in some public land trying to figure out how I can get on another big deer. Yesterday afternoon, I fell asleep watching football and woke up late. I decided I'd take a ride out to the 40 acres we've had permission on my entire life where I fell in love with deer hunting. It's where I've made my "deer camp" memories with dad, grandpa, brother, and close family friends. I plant a few acres of foodplots every summer to help those guys try and see more deer and have an opportunity to harvest something, but I generally try to stay out because I travel out of state and feel I have more opportunities than they do. Lastnight, I decided I'd just go sit and enjoy the view. I have no cameras there and had zero expectations of harvesting anything. It's been 9 years since I shot a nice buck there. I didn't get settled in until 6PM. I heard a twig break and this guy slipped in behind me walking directly at the tree I had my saddle in just before 7PM. I thought it was likely a doe until his tall, heavy frame appeared from behind some branches and he turned and gave me a 13-yard slight quartering away shot. My brother and nephew aided in the recovery which makes the memory that much sweeter! Both tags punched in MI by 10/18!
