After sitting for 4.5 hrs, I decided to get out of my stand and stalk for a bit and see if any deer were moving around. An hour into my stalk I found a lot of fresh tracks leading into thick pines and underbrush. I creeped in going as slow and quite as I could. Kneeling down taking a break and looking around, I caught movement to my right. I saw one side of his rack and decided I was going to take a shot. He was 20 ft to my right moving with his head down and moving fast. I aimed my shotgun and made the shot broadside at 20 ft. He took off and ran right pass me and I lost sight after about 40 ft, due to the thickness of the underbrush. I waited a half hour and began to track, found 60 yards from where I hit him. When I walked up, I couldn’t believe was I was seeing. A personal record and beautiful 14 point. A day to remember.
