I had just gotten off the phone with a customer while out sitting in the treestand and look up to see ‘Elliot’ headed straight towards me from a neighboring property. I quickly ranged him at 70yds and set my slider to 65yds. He came in a little closer and stuck his nose straight up; followed by his tail. Soon as he turned away and started walking, I stopped him with a classic, “Meh!”. I then drew back my bow and he turned back around quartering to me. Sent an arrow and thought I nailed him. Ranged it after to be 64-70yds. Got down to check my arrow a short time after and found liver blood. Decided it was best to back out and go take care of my service calls for the day. After an endless four hours and all of my calls were complete, I knocked on the neighbor’s door for permission. With permission granted I followed a massive blood trail off of our hunting property to a bedding spot and couldn’t find no deer. Scanned the area for a few minutes and decided to walk back to my stand in disgust. Got back onto the hunting property and notice a blood trail going into the corn where I found him. Well, what was left of him. Coyotes had ate his whole back half within the 4 hours during the middle of the day. Needless to say, I am extremely blessed to take this buck and in the meantime, I think it’s coyote season!
