This late in the season it’s super difficult to have an encounter like this one. Only gobbled twice while on the roost. Flew down with a jake and a hen. Landed 50-60yards away. For about an hour of watching him strutting and drumming the hen finally got upset enough and wanted a piece of the decoys. It was a first for me seeing a hen puff up and stick her fan out after these decoys. I knew with the hen coming in the Tom wasn’t far behind her and that was exactly what he did. Found an opening to get a clear shot and after that it was a wrap.

Crawled through a field to get setup on this tom and after giving us a show, he came in to 40 yards and that was it. First turkey and the experience will be hard to beat!

With a few days left in the season I knew I had to do whatever to get a bird down , set out mid day and watched a turkey cross the road into a corn felid that butts up to public land, parked the car and walked 500 yards to the back of the public where he would be crossing through , saw him with some hens so I knew he wouldn’t respond to me so I grabbed my gun and flanked him , popped up in front and shot him at 40 yards .

I was running late as I couldn’t get out of bed. It was about 6:40 am when I sat down next to a tree. I hit the call and nothing. Waited a few minutes hit it again and he responded from a couple hundred yards away. Waited four minutes hit it again and he was running they the woods toward me. He got to 40 yards and he went down for the count. Hunted three times this year. First two times with a bow. Wished I could have harvested this guy with a bow. Funnest 11 minutes in the woods!

I always say first time out hunting is always the best no matter what game you are hunting. And this was the case this evening. After a short game of cat and mouse I was able to seal the deal. Beautiful bird! Thanks to my dad for taking pictures.

Tried a spot before light and wasn’t getting any action as the morning went on so we decided to pack up and move. We drove a few miles down the road and saw him strutting in a private field that backed up to state land. So we walked from the parking area up and around state land to get into position. We set up half way up a ridge, called a few times and he came right out of that field over the ridge and right into the decoys.

Saw him and another Tom across to the field then walked by on the other side of the field. 30 minutes later 2 hens walked by the 2 toms followed shot him at 20 yards first Turkey with a Bow. Super grateful lots of time and effort.
